Science Education for Peace

The World Science Forum (WSF 2017) started on the 7th of November in Jordan and it will continue till the 11th of November bringing together the world’s leading scientists, political leaders, academics, decision makers and investors to Jordan’s Dead Sea Convention Center. As the WSF organisers stressed: << Under the theme of ‘Science for Peace’, representatives from over 100 countries will put science at the forefront of efforts to bring peace to our world and to tackle the factors that threaten our stability and growth>>. The 4-day Forum will include key sessions on topics including energy, water, food and the right to an education that unlocks opportunities in the world of today.

As part of the Forum, UNESCO organized and coordinates a special session under the title PERFORM – Promoting Science Education through the Arts” scheduled on Wednesday the 8th of November at 16:30 – 18:00. The session convened by Casimiro Vizzini, Expert, Division of Science Policy and Capacity-Building, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), will present the preliminary findings of the PERFORM project and discuss its future developments. UNESCO is the consortium partner of the PERFORM project responsible for the sustainability of the project and its findings after the end of the project. Three axes have been identified to ensure the sustainability of PERFORM that are further described in the sustainability plan.

WSF 2017 is being held under the gracious Patronage of HM King Abdullah ibn Al Hussein, and Their Excellencies President Áder of Hungary and Director-General Irina Bokova of UNESCO. The event has the full support of the UN Secretary-General António Guterres and will be attended by several Nobel Laureates and senior government representatives from around the world.
