WHAT HAPPENED WITH MY WORK? FIRST RETURN OF RESULTS WITHIN PERFORM’S ASSESSMENT TO THE STUDENTS

On the last week of May, PERFORM’s assessment team –from UAB and UOC, went back to the four participating secondary schools in Barcelona to share with the students a battery of participatory assessment indicators. These indicators were identified as a result of exploratory workshops carried out with 161 students from 11 Catalan, French and British secondary schools between March and May 2016.

Through these exploratory workshops participants were asked to reflect and discuss about those aspects that motivate them to participate in science education and/or communication activities, both inside and outside school. The results of such discussions were analysed to include students’ views and opinions about science learning and engagement in the evaluation process through participatory assessment indicators, complementing other expert-based indicators. These findings are included in PERFORM Deliverable 4.1 “Methodological aspects of science education assessment” that will be soon available at this webpage.

In doing that we engaged students in the assessment process since early stages of the PERFORM project. We also incorporated context differences in the assessment design, being sensitive to the different educative backgrounds in each country.

Participation is a key dimension of PERFORM and the return of results provides an opportunity for participants to validate researcher’s analysis, provide critical feedback and, very important, to be aware of what is done with their work and the way they contribute to the project; aspects that are key to the Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) approach.
